Days: 4   |   Group size: 24   |  Lodging style: Heated Private Rooms (Double occupancy) + Restroom & Shower Facilities

The perfect place to re-charge.

We're headed to the Þórsmörk Volcano Huts in Iceland to digital detox with fellow geeks, and it's gonna be an adventure of a lifetime. We'll stop by waterfalls and the Gígjökull glacier, take a 4x4 ride through beautiful terrain, have a drink or two at the Volcano Huts, and sit by the fire -- and that's just day 1.

Relax and unwind

Go on an afternoon hike, play some outdoor games, take an afternoon nap, go on a scavenger hunt, take a swim in the thermal swimming hole, or sit around the campfire with other campers… minimal schedules, lots of fun, incredible memories. A digital detox in Iceland is perfect because there's so much to see and do. Think a cross between summer camp and Burning Man... in Iceland... one of the most picturesque places on earth.

Where we're staying

Volcano Huts are located in Húsadalur Valley in the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve in Iceland, right next to the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano & Glacier. You’ll be living in luxury by remote Icelandic standards (hey, it’s not a tent!). Each room accommodates two people, and you’ll be matched with a roommate unless otherwise specified when you purchase your ticket. Rooms are heated and are all a part of a larger cabin with shared toilets in the hall of the building. The bunks have double lower beds and single upper beds. The rooms are small but comfortable and include made up beds for extra comfort. Sauna, showers and a natural warm pool are accessible in the LavaSPA a few steps away from the building.

Meals will be provided by our partners in Iceland. Accommodations can be made for dietary restrictions (i.e. vegetarian, allergies, etc). Please fill out the relevant information in your application. 3 meals and snacks will be provided each day.

  • Breakfast: Homemade bread, eggs, ham, cheese, freshly cut fruit, sliced vegetables, jams, biscuits, oatmeal, cereal, milk, juice, coffee and tea.
  • Lunch buffet: Soup, salad, home made bread, coffee and cakes.
  • Dinner buffet: Two course buffet of lamb, pork, fish or chicken as main course, soup, fresh salad, dressings, grilled potatoes and home made bread.
  • Day-hike Lunches: A mixture of sandwiches, snacks, chocolate bar and juices, prepared for a day-hike.

Gear list

Below is a list of suggested gear to bring with you on your trip to Iceland. It’s not an exhaustive list, just a list that will help make sure you have the essentials for Icelandic travel. As you pack, think about these two ideas:

  • Assume there might be rain or falling snow. Backpacks should have waterproof covers (some are built into backpacks, so check yours), hiking boots should be waterproof, and clothes should be made of quick drying material (denim is ok to bring for a night on the town, but won’t be comfortable during a hike if they get wet).
  • Temperatures can vary between day and night, and from day to day. Think about dressing in layers (3-5 top layers that can be taken off and put on throughout the day).

  • Flip flops
  • Waterproof walking shoes
  • ‘Around camp’ shoe

Additional gear

  • Small day backpack with rain cover
  • Sleep mask
  • Reusable water bottle
  • European electrical adapter
  • Portable charger
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera
  • Charger for phone / camera / etc

  • Tote / bag for shower supplies
  • Personal items / toiletries

"I would highly recommend camping with 'Adventures with Geeks', specially if you are a beginner or first timer. One of the best hosts who is friendly, welcoming and makes sure you don't feel left out. I am glad we chose this event as our first camping in the US. I feel confident and am very keen to explore more camping events in future."

"Many of us in the technology industry are “in the flow,” seemingly 24/7. It’s critical to to get out from behind our devices, interact with others in actual conversation, and take time to process. With that time to reflect comes creativity and new ideas."

Becky Davis

"Like most of us, I work from home. Working for yourself has a lot of advantages, but having a chance to chat with real people IRL on a regular basis is not one of them. Sitting around a campfire with real people disconnected from technology sounds very appealing."

Brad Williams

"I didn’t know what to expect going to Camp Press. What I promptly learned is that was the entire point of the event—doing the unexpected, pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, making new friends, having fun and serious conversations, and doing all of this without the normal technology that is always around us."
